“The Landy Teller Champion for Culture & the Arts Award” for 2025 was presented at the SCHF Christmas party. The recipient was Jenny Bottemiller. Jenny came to SCHF as a volunteer more than seven years ago for Over the River Run. After that, she became more and more involved at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. She became a board member in 2021. She also brought along with her, her husband Drew, who has been a steadfast volunteer. We appreciate all Jenny’s dedication to the SCHF and are excited to honor her with this most special award. Press release.
In 2016, an anonymous gift was made in memory of Landy Teller. The gift was meant to start an endowment that would fund an award that would be presented to an individual who contributes to culture and the arts in Vicksburg. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation (SCHF) did this, and the first award was presented in 2017.
“Landy Teller was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation and in the early days when there were just a few of us who believed in the crazy notion that you could turn a block of buildings into a cultural center that could support itself, he was a rock,” said Nancy Bell, president of SCHF Board. “He believed that it needed to be done and could be done and because his counsel was so well respected, he was able to encourage those people who we needed in order to make the project a success, to get on board. Landy was always available to answer legal questions, to write contracts, or to provide whatever support he could to all of our directors. He always had an encouraging word for our staff. We would not be where we are today without the leadership of Landy Teller.”

17th Annual “Holly Days” Arts and Crafts Show, Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the historic SCHF Auditorium. Admission is $3. “Holly Days” will feature a room full of quality vendors showcasing their arts and crafts, plus local talent will entertain the attendees. Continued from last year, we will open up our North Pole Mancave! Come lounge with the guys, watch some football, and have some snacks, coffee, and cocktails. The show has become a tradition in Vicksburg. The live entertainment will include Jeanne Evans’ music students, Rachel Storey’s and Mary Hall’s piano students, Denise Ragsdale’s piano students, Debra Franco School of Dance, RiverPointe Dance, and more! 18th-Annual Classics in the Courtyard, offers a variety of entertainment through different genres of classic music. Local entertainers and local restaurants will provide the music and lunch on Fridays from 12-1 p.m. beginning October 17th and concluding November 7th. The entertainment is provided for free and lunch can be purchased for $18 per person or $15 for SCHF Members. “Southern Exposure” Fall Mini Camp, November 24-26, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The camp is open to kids ages 4-11. And the registration fee is $90 per child for the week and includes all supplies and a daily snack (this fee includes a $25 non-refundable fee to hold your spot). Kids are asked to bring their lunch.
During this camp, children will be “exercising mind, body, and soul” as they utilize the gymnasium, art classrooms, auditorium, gardens, and media room of the SCHC to investigate southern music, gardening, art, manners, and other camp-like activities. The children will perform improvisation throughout the week to their peers. Experienced and accredited educators, Karen and Herman Biedenharn will plan and oversee all aspects of the camp.

The 37th Annual Over the River Run, Saturday, October 11th, 2025 at 8 a.m. CST at the Old Mississippi River Bridge located at I-20 and Washington Street. The Foundation along with many sponsors and volunteers present this very special community venture. This event welcomes hundreds to the City of Vicksburg and will serve as a wonderful family event.

This unique run follows a scenic course heading west across the Mississippi River to Delta, Louisiana and then returns back to the finish line. The event involves a 5-mile run, 5-mile walk and a one-mile fun run for kids. Complimentary musical entertainment, fun and refreshments for all runners, walkers and volunteers will follow the race in the Ameristar Delta Point parking lot. Online Registration is open now. Take advantage of early bird registration! The entry fees are $35 for the 5-mile race and $20 for the 1-mile fun run. After September 15th, entry fees will be $40 for the 5-mile race and $25 for the 1-mile fun run. Race day fee for the 5-mile race will be $40. Family Pre-Race is $150 (pre-registered only, limit 5 immediate family members living at the same address) (only available by September 15). Spirit Runner is $30 (includes T-shirt only). Register early to receive your OVER THE RIVER RUN T-SHIRT! Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure a place at the event. The Over the River Run is an extremely important fundraiser for the SCHF and a very special community event. After expenses, proceeds from the race will go toward the rehabilitation of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center and the many maintenance issues of the five historic buildings of the Center.

Vendor Applications are being accepted for the 17th Annual Holly Days Arts and Crafts Show. The Show will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is $2. Holly Days will feature an assortment of vendors showcasing their products plus local talent will entertain the attendees. Vendor applications are now being accepted. Space is limited and acceptance to the Show will be based on the images of the crafts/art submitted with an application. Craft and art demonstrations are a plus. Although specific space requests will be considered, spaces will be assigned by the Review Committee.
The show has become a much anticipated annual event. Attendees will be able to enjoy live music while they shop the variety of vendors chosen from a wide range of categories. Exhibit space is $65 for Returning Vendors and $70 for New Vendors. Applications must be turned in by October 15, 2025.

Carnival and Haunted House volunteers needed! Spooky season is upon us! We are looking for volunteers to play scare actors in our Tunnel of Terror Haunted House and people to work kids games at the carnival! “Tunnel of Terror Haunted House” and the “It’s Fall Y’all Carnival,” October 25 and Sunday, October 26, 2025. The Tunnel of Terror and the It’s Fall Y’all Carnival will be open from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Saturday (Scaredy Cat hour from 6-6:45 p.m.) and from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday (Scaredy Cat hour from 6-6:30 p.m.).
The haunted house will take you through the convent, into the basement, and through the creepy tunnels that line the inner courtyard of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. It will be decorated with the things of your nightmares, surely to haunt you. Get ready for ghosts, skeletons, dolls, clowns and more as you make your way through the tunnel of terror! The carnival will take place in the courtyard on the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets. Activities will include decorating a small pumpkin, a jump house for the kids, and all sorts of carnival games like corn hole, limbo, and more! Games will include small prizes and sweet treats! There will also be music and Triple J’s Pizza Taco will be set up on the street! Libations will be available for purchase inside the carnival!
Tickets for the carnival only, not including entrance to the haunted house, will be $5 per person. Game tickets will be available for purchase. Open to any child in 1st through 6th grade, the class will meet on Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. for the thirteen-week program. Space is limited and reservations are required. The River Kids Program is designed to encourage children to discover and develop their creative talents. It will expose creativity through drawing, painting, crafts, collage, ceramics, sculpture and many more exciting techniques. Experienced and accredited educators plan and teach each class. The program is free, but requires a full semester commitment from the parents. It will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Southern Exposure Summer Camp, for nine weeks, May 27-July 25, 2025!
The camp hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Early drop-off is available at 7:30 a.m. and pick-up through 5:15 p.m.) The camp is open to kids ages 4-11. And the registration fee is $125 per child for each week, or $115 per child for two or more children. The fee includes all supplies and a daily snack. Kids are asked to bring their lunch.
SCHF has full day activities for your child all summer long! During this camp, children will be “exercising mind, body, and soul” as they utilize the gymnasium, art classrooms, auditorium, gardens, and media room of the SCHC to investigate southern music, gardening, art, manners, and other camp-like games and activities. Experienced and accredited teachers will plan and oversee all aspects of the camp.

Back to the 80’s Line Dance Party, Saturday, July 12, 2025 in the SCHC Auditorium. A Line Dance tutorial will be offered from 6-7 p.m., with the Line Dance Party from 7-9 p.m. Where neon meets nostalgia, and every dance move is radical! Whether you’re a seasoned line dancer or just in it for the vibe, this night promises nonstop fun, funky grooves, and flashback flair. Costumes are encouraged, good vibes required! Let’s dance like it’s 1985! The cost is $10/person. There will be a cash bar and concessions available.
