Southern Exposure Summer Camp, for nine weeks, May
27-July 25, 2025!
The camp hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Early drop-off is available at 7:30 a.m. and pick-up through 5:15 p.m.) The camp is open to kids ages 4-11. And the registration fee is $125 per child
for each week, or $115 per child for two or more
children. The fee includes all supplies and a daily snack. Kids are asked to bring their lunch.
SCHF has full day activities for your child all summer long! During this camp, children will be “exercising mind, body, and
soul” as they utilize the gymnasium, art classrooms, auditorium, gardens, and media room of the SCHC to investigate southern music, gardening, art, manners, and other camp-like games and activities. Experienced and accredited teachers will plan and oversee all aspects of the camp.

Star-Spangled Night Run, Saturday,
June 21, 2025.
Race results
Come join us and help us light up the night in this unique
event which will include a 5K run and a 5K walk through
downtown Vicksburg! It will begin and end at the Southern
Cultural Heritage Center.
Run-Walk Trifold Entry Form.
Registration is open now! And there are several ways to
participate! Registration options are: $35 – 5K
Individual Fee, $15 – 5K Kids Registration (12 &
under), these fees are good through June 14th (add $5
after June 14th); 5K registrations include a Night Run
T-shirt, Race Bib, Glow Item, and FREE Admission to the
After-Party; $25 – Spirit Runner registration includes a
Night Run T-shirt, Glow Item, & FREE Admission to
After-Party; and $10 – After-Party Armband (only
necessary if you are not registered for the race). The
first 150 registered participants will be guaranteed a Night
Run Shirt. Entry forms and complete event details are

June 20th at the SCHF Auditorium (corner of Crawford and
Cherry Streets) from 3:00pm -6:00pm and before the race on
Saturday at the race site starting at 6:30 pm.
After you cross the finish line, the party begins in the
SCHC Auditorium! The After-Party will include food, drinks,
music, and fun for all! We will light up the night just in
time for Independence Day! For FREE entry into the
After-Party which includes free food and drink, runners and
walkers should show their race bib and volunteers should
wear their Night Run T-shirt. All others can pay $10 for an
After-Party Armband for entrance to the party.

Camp, June 23-27 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Making
Memories to Last a Lifetime! Lana Hand will lead the camp,

“Basket Weaving
101” with Amy Erwin, Thursday, May 1, 2025,
at 5:30 p.m.
In Basket Weaving 101, you will learn the wonderful
and practical art of basket weaving. A
10,500-year-old, perfectly preserved, basket was
found in Israel! Our own Native Americans have been
making and using baskets for hundreds of years using
techniques and fibers passed down through
generations. In this first class, learn the basics
of basket weaving using the twining technique with
round reed. Students will be guided step by step to
make a lovely serving tray basket of their very own.
Although this class is designed for beginners,
basket makers of any level are welcome. Everything
you need for your basket will be provided. This
class will be held in the SCHC Academy building. The
fee is $45/person, but only $40/SCHF Members and
includes all supplies.

A “Spring” Classics in
the Courtyard, Fabulous Music, Lunch and Fun at
Noon at the SCH Center, beginning April 25th and ending

music. The musical entertainment is provided for free and

Dance Fusion Night,
Saturday, May 10, 2025, a combination of Line Dancing and
Latin Dancing!
Two dance parties in one night! The first half of the night
will be Line Dancing. A Line Dance tutorial will be offered
from 6-7 p.m., with a Line Dance Party from 7-8:30 p.m. The
second half of the night will be Latin Dancing. There will
be a Salsa lesson from 8:30-9 p.m. and a Bachata lesson from
9-9:30 p.m. Social Dancing will be from 9:30-11 p.m. You can

In celebration of the season of Mardi Gras, the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation (VFHP) presents the 13th annual Carnaval de Mardi Gras and Gumbo Cook-Off, on Saturday,
March 1st, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at the Southern
Cultural Heritage Center. The Foundation is
accepting teams for the gumbo cook-off now.
In addition to bragging rights and trophies, the
first-place winner in both the seafood and
non-seafood categories will be awarded a $300 cash
price. The entry fee for the cook-off is $50 by
February 14th, and $75 after February 14th and
includes admittance for four team members to the
carnival.

Admission for the Carnaval and Gumbo Cook-off is
$10 for adults and includes gumbo and $5 for
children and includes unlimited children’s
activities. Music by Keys Vs Strings! Admission may be paid at the door or
purchased in advance at the Biedenharn Coca-Cola
Museum. Additional food items and beverages may be
purchased during the event. All proceeds from the Carnaval will benefit the Vicksburg Foundation for
Historic Preservation.

children to discover and develop their creative talents. It
