Vicksburg: People, Places, and Moments.
An online exhibit of photos by Pat Shanahan and Will Hortman.
The SCHF hosted Vicksburg: People, Places, & Moments, an exhibit of images taken by local photojournalists Pat Shannahan and Will Hortman, from August 11th through the 19th, 2000. For both photographers, the display offered an opportunity to share a unique view of the community.
“Before moving to Vicksburg, I had never lived in the South,” Shannahan, a graduate of Arizona State University, noted. “I came to Vicksburg to experience southern culture and life.”
For Hortman, a former Vicksburg resident who is currently a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, the images capture elements of life in Vicksburg. “People always ask what it was like to live in Mississippi,” he commented. “I could never really explain it, so I took the opportunity to come back and photograph my hometown.”
