The SCHF offers ballroom dance classes twice monthly. James Frechette, owner of the Applause Dance Factory in Ridgeland, MS, will teach classes in ballroom, latin, country/western, and swing dance.

Individuals and couples are welcome. The fee is $20 per person for each 2 hour session. For more information, please call the SCHF office at 631-2997.


Spring Break Performances
Tuesday, March 15
10:00 a.m.
2:00 p.m.

The SCHF is pleased to offer two performances of the Carnival of the Animals presented by the Puppet Arts Theatre under the award winning direction of Peter Zapletal. These performances are made possible in part by a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Carnival of the Animals is a grand zoological fantasy for orchestra. The show includes chickens on a seesaw, an elephant, and the tortoise and hare recreate their famous race. Rabbits on a trampoline and a six foot tall bird are featured in this show designed to entertain. Children from the audience join the professional cast on stage and perform with puppets made by the company.

This professional performing troop is creative and extremely entertaining for children of all ages as well as adults!

Join us in the SCHF Auditorium on the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets for the show! The morning show is at 10:00 am and the afternoon show is at 2:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, March 20
2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. the SCHF will host the St. Joseph's Community Orchestra's Spring Concert in the Auditorium on the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets.

Dr. Evenson from Southeastern Louisiana University will be the featured pianist on the Greig Piano Concerto. The orchestra will also perform the Peer Gynt suite.

Admission to the concert is $10.00 with proceeds to benefit the Orchestra and the SCHF.

Friday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m.
George Washington Ball House

Vicksburg Spring Pilgrimage will kick-off the 2005 Season with a cocktail reception at the George Washington Ball House. Each historic property participating in Pilgrimage will be on site with a "specialty of the house" and be available to explain more about their site while sharing some of its fascinating history.

Everyone is invited to attend and see what Vicksburg Pilgrimage offers not only to tourists, but also to our own community. Cost for the Gala Is $20.00 per person and all proceeds benefit Vicksburg Heritage, Inc, the Pilgrimage Association. The SCHF will feature our newly restored Cobb House during Vicksburg's Spring Pilgrimage. Pilgrimage will begin March 12 and run through April 2. The SCHF will be on the Red Tour along with the Baer House and the Martha Vick House. Red Tours will be in the morning from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on March 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, and 25.

We need volunteer tour guides for pilgrimage, so anyone interested in participating should contact the SCHF office at (601) 631-2997.


The Southern Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month. There is no fee and it is open to the public.  New members are welcome.

BIRTHRIGHT
A NOVEL BY CLAY BLOUNT

Lecture and Book Signing
March 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Local author Clay Blount will have a lecture and book signing on his novel Birthright at the SCHF on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Birthright is set in Vicksburg during the Civil War and revolves around a feud between two brothers over the family fortune. Rich details about the war and the siege at Vicksburg keep the novel moving along to its satisfying finish.

The lecture will take place in the SCHF academy building and is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event. For more information, contact the SCHF office.
